There are some people that just shine – and there are some people that make you shine when they stand next to you. Sharon Kelley is both of these things. With her pretty blue eyes, and our long friendship, I cannot begin to express how lucky I am to have her as not only as friend, but an honorary fixture of the store: she does all those “special touches” on our artwork at McMillen’s.

Along with paint and pencil, her love affair with the pen has always been a part of her art. An artist since she was a little girl, her fascination with letter forms began at an early age with penmanship in elementary school.

Beginning in the 70’s, she has studied calligraphy and lettering from international, mastering lettering artists. A student in Commercial Art, she has studies in drawing and painting. Her goal? “To create beauty and evoke emotion; to share with others the relationship between paint, lettering, or both.”

Her lettering is featured as original art, used in greeting cards, and has been exhibited through private commissions. She also does wedding invitations, place cards and much more, but would much rather make your framed piece an amazing one-of-a-kind. We’ve even had her paint and letter on 4′ porcelain cats, wooden rocking horses, and her famous “mermaid” chair, painted for Goodwill of Northern Michigan’s Reinvention Convention.

Below are some examples of just how to make your project a special one-of-a-kind
